Jeremy Newmark

Overview:

Jeremy Newmark is a British Jewish Zionist activist who was chief executive of the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC). JLC is one of the foremost Israeli lobbies in the UK.¹ Newmark was also former chairman of the Jewish Labour Movement, one of the most important pro-Israel lobbies in the Labour Party alongside the “Labour Friends of Israel” group. Newmark has been regarded as one of the most influential pro-Israel lobbyists in the party.

Telling Remarks

In an interview with Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Newmark said that through the JLC, pro-Israeli lobbyists were “liaising closely with the government of Israel” in order to repel criticism against Israel in the UK. At a conference in 2011, Newmark called on pro-Israel activists to join political parties “and become a voice for Israel.”²

Financial Corruption

Newmark faced serious financial fraud charges which caused his resignation from the JLM.³ He also stepped down from his position in JLC after financial irregularities were exposed.⁴
