Miriam Adelson is an American billionaire. Miriam was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and later married to infamous Zionist lobbyist and American casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. After her husband’s death, she inherited his wealth, consequently owning Las Vegas Sands, a major casino and resort company.
Staunch Supporter of Israel
Like her husband, Adelson has never hidden her true loyalty to Israel, over America. She has said that her heart has always been in Israel and she got “stuck” in America after meeting her husband.1 Miriam along with her late husband were present at the US embassy inauguration ceremony in Jerusalem. Miriam and Sheldon are considered to be the figures behind Trump’s decision to transfer the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Donation to Pro-Israel Groups
The Adelson family donated $200 million to Taglit-Birthright Israel and $50 million to Yad Vashem Holocaust museum in Jerusalem. Taglit-Birthright Israel or Birthright Israel is a pro-Isreal organization that encourages young Jews to visit Israel. Adelsons also began donating to the Israeli American Council (IAC) co-founded by Adam Milstein.2 IAC is a Zionist organization that seeks support for Israel among Americans. She is the current publisher of the newspaper Israel Hayom that was bought by her husband.3 Israel Hayom is a right-wing Israeli newspaper and frequently portrays a positive image of Benjamin Netanyahu.
Shaping Trump’s ME Policy
She and Sheldon both were the major donors to Donald Trump’s presidential campaigns. They also hugely influenced Trump’s policies regarding Palestine and the Middle East in favor of Israel. The Adelsons played a major role in convincing Trump to transfer the US embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
