Overview:
Rav Yosef Garmon is a Guatemalan Jewish rabbi born in Jerusalem. He was the former chief Rabbi of Guatemala. He engages in propaganda activities lining up Guatemalan Jews and Evangelical Christians to defend Israel’s interests in Guatemala. Garmon has a special focus on increasing Guatemalan parliamentarian support for Israel in the form of a group named the “League of Friends of Israel”. Garmon has also contributed to the formation of a new small town in Guatemala called “New Jerusalem”.
After many UN members including Guatemala voted in 2017 not to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, Garmon – with the help of Evangelical pastors – successfully lobbied for the Guatemalan president to revoke the decision and recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli regime.1
Before moving to Guatemala, he was the chief rabbi of Cali, Colombia.2
